Spiderweb Climing Frame.

Thanks to the excellent fundraising by the school's P&C we now have a brand new Spiderweb climbing frame in the gully. Our P&C raised $20, 000 for this equipment, and a dedicated group of parents and students worked during the holidays to have the climbing frame up and ready for use by the start of Term 4.

Caitlin's Big Shave

Caitlin Goldfinch of Year 4 and Mr Hopson had their heads shaved to support breast cancer awareness and research. Kelly from Opulence Hair Skin Body in Nelson Street Wallsend  generously donated her time and skills to shave Caitlin and Mr Hopson’s heads.

As you know, breast cancer has affected families within the school community, including the Goldfinch and Hopson families, and Caitlin was inspired by the success of our recent Pink Day fundraiser.

So far Caitlin has raised $1290.25 - what a great effort!  The Plattsy community is very proud of Caitlin.

My Story

On the 8th April 2014 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am 37 with two beautiful young boys, 3 & 8, and an amazing husband.

My initial thoughts were... this can't be happening to me, I'm too young, I am healthy with no family history, this is the kind of thing that happens to other people - not me. Over the coming weeks it started to sink in, but instead of feeling sorry for myself I see this as a journey I must go through to make me a better and stronger person. It has also made me appreciate the small things in life - like feeling well enough to drop my sons at school. My husband and sons are my inspiration, they mean everything to me, and this is OUR journey... we do everything together as a family and this is no different.

As we embark on this journey we have been overwhelmed by the love and support of our family and friends. Everyone wants to help out in some way which is just wonderful, and makes life so much easier for us. Every small kindness touches our hearts and gives us more quality family time together rather than time spent on chores. Now we want to help someone else...

I am particularly interested in research into treatments for breast cancer and maybe one day a cure. Wouldn't it be awesome if just one family was saved from the difficult journey we are experiencing? So my beautiful sister Liza is going to shave all of our heads (Myself, Steve, Keith and Tom) and we are asking for a small donation from you to raise money for breast cancer research. Here is a massive statistic - 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. That means that every one of us will be personally touched by breast cancer... think about it.

Thank you for reading about my story and thank you so much for your kind donation to the NBCF. Keep checking in on this page for photo evidence & other updates. Love Katie, Steve, Keith and Tom
